Immigrant waiter Jonathan Limani jailed after cutting off Golf Club manager Chris Varian

n Albanian immigrant who hacked a restaurant manager's head off with a cheese knife was allowed to move to Britain despite five years of violent and psychotic behaviour in Europe.

Jonathan Limani, a paranoid schizophrenic described as a 'highly dangerous individual', had been sectioned twice and was being investigated for assault when he was allowed to move to England.

The family of his victim, Chris Varian, yesterday said authorities had made a 'catalogue of errors' in letting Limani move from Sweden to become a waiter at the four-star The Oxfordshire in Thame.

Limani, 34, denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter  by reason of diminished responsibility at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

Limani – who had been working at the hotel for only a fortnight – killed his boss because the 'voice of God' had told him to, a psychiatrist told the court.

Mr Varian, then 32, had gone for a break to the smoking area. Limani took a cheese knife, followed him out and stabbed him before sawing his head off. Alan Blake, prosecuting, said kitchen porter Guy Hathaway-Pearce saw 'the defendant kneeling on the ground holding Mr Varian's neck'. Mr Varian was unconscious and Limani looked 'transfixed'.

The decapitation had taken a 'certain degree of time and energy', according to the post mortem.

Limani pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, with the prosecution accepting he was suffering from an abnormality of mind at the time of the killing.

Limani had been sectioned twice and diagnosed with psychosis in Sweden and Switzerland. He was taking medication erratically. He served a year in prison in Switzerland for heroin trafficking in 2004. He was under investigation for assault in Sweden – where he claimed asylum – when he moved to Britain.

After his arrest here, he was detained in Broadmoor and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and a personality disorder.

Yesterday, Mr Varian's father Nigel said his son's death was 'macabre' and his family suffered 'daily torture'. He demanded to know why the killer was allowed into the country.

A Male Commercial Sex Worker Who specialises in Sleeping With Top Government Officials.

"It was like a scene from one of those Hollywood movies. People gathered around, not believing their ears as they listened to the young man who was not the least ashamed of his trade. Ifeanyi Benedith Agah told the astounded crowd in the Upper Area Court of Maraba, Nassarawa State how he plied this trade in the suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). And what is his trade? Commercial sex! BLESSING UKEMENA writes

Men are fast becoming part of commercial sex workers especially in major cities of the country. Before now it was mostly done in secret but it has now taken a new dimension with the men standing by the road side soliciting for clients.

According Ifeanyi, he used to stand the streets of Wuse Zone 4 which is acknowledged as one of the red light zones in the FCT or Jabi, a suburb of Abuja for business. He also owned up to having been into the business for about five years.

He said: I have been doing this for five years now. I was disvirgined when I was 12 years. I used to perform in cultural dances with the females in my school. One day my principal saw me, called me and told me that he liked me, that is how we started.

He was the one who initiated me into Being Intimate through the anus.

My parents were not taking good care of me. They left me in the village while they were here in Abuja. It was the principal that was taking care of me by paying my school fees and other such things"

The-17-year-old who hails from Afikpo Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, claimed that, at first his parents were not aware of his intimate activities but when they eventually found out they took him for HIV/AIDS test and it was discovered that he was HIV positive.

Agahs parents subsequently disowned him and threw him out of the house and so like most persons in the commercial sex; he claimed he went into the trade for economic reasons, adding that he joined the females to stand by the streets for clients at night.

Problem, however, started when he encountered 32-year-old Rabiu who approached him for his services on the March 11, 2012.

According to Agah, he usually charged N10,000 for each round of sex but Rabiu had pleaded with him to accept the same sum for two rounds of sex, but the client gave him only N1,000 after their time together and asked him to return the next day for the balance of N9,000.

The accused person stated that Rabiu did not live up to his promise as he gave him only N3,500 which upset him leading to an argument that landed both parties in police station where they had gone to have the issue resolved but were detained and charged to court the following day.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY, Agah stated that all sorts of persons patronise him for intimate gratification. Some of them are ministers but they will not tell you their full names. The good ones among them will give me up to N40,000 to N45,000 per night and the stingy ones will give N25,000 for three rounds per night

The accused who did not seem repulsed by what he has been doing, further stated, When I sleep with other men I feel like a female LovePeddler. I do not have feeling for females, only the males so they are the ones that take me out for business and treat me well.

I cannot tell them that I am HIV positive because it will spoil business for me. Some of them use condoms. Nobody apart from my parents knows that I am HIV positive. I stay with female LovePeddlers because I do not have my own place. Even the girls I live with do not know that I am HIV positive, he said.

Agah surprisingly told our correspondent that he would not advise anybody to join his trade as he insisted he was in it because of his financial difficulties, just as he said he would advise those in the cat to stop it stating: This is hand work because I need to take care of myself but I would advise others that are doing it to stop it. I am doing this because of my condition. My parents stay in Gwagwa, a suburb of the FCT, but I have not seen them in two years.

Rabiu, however, refused to make any comment as he bemoaned the possibility of going to jail having been found guilty of unnatural offences by the Upper Area Court, presided over by Judge Abdullahi Mariga. Police Prosecutor, Inspector Abu asked the court for preservation of sentence so that more investigation might be carried out as there were other developments while trial was on.

The court convicted the accused as charged and ordered that they remain in police custody till the sentence is passed. Hearing in the sentencing is scheduled for March the 21, 2012.

Wife ripped out husband's intestine with a knife

What initially looked like a normal fight between a Nigerian couple over sex, turned bloody when the wife stabbed the husband several times, resulting in the untimely death of a 42-year-old man at Asokore Mampong in Kumasi.

Rashida Yetunde, 37, allegedly used a sharp knife to stab Maruuf Akinjobi three times in the chest, sending the stoutly-built man down, before stabbing him again on countless occasions in the abdomen when the deceased allegedly tried raping her.

The intestines of Maruuf gushed out as he bled profusely amid wailing for help in their locked room on Tuesday around 10:30p.m, the police told Daily Guide.

The suspect, after committing the heinous crime, left the man to his fate in the locked room, threw the knife into a nearby bush and fled with her five-year-old son in the dark to avert being apprehended.

Some Good Samaritans residing in the same house who heard the dying man crying for help forcibly broke into the room and quickly sent him to hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival..

Briefing Daily Guide, the Asawase District Police Commander, DSP Nana Kumi, said the stabbed man was initially sent to the police station by his helpers and he was issued with a medical form to visit the hospital for treatment but it was too late.

The police chief noted that suspect Rashida personally visited the police station around 4:00a.m on Wednesday to report that she stabbed her husband the previous night during a fight.

Aware that the man had passed away, the police decided to detain the lady to assist in investigations.

Her five-year-old son with the deceased has been given to the family of the departed husband to take care of.

DSP Kumi disclosed that Rashida, during interrogation, said she met the deceased in Benin where he proposed love to her which she agreed to in 2004.

According to her, her late husband, whilst proposing to her, said he had divorced his wife so he was single.

The suspect said some years later, she realised that her husband was befriending her friend who lived with them in the same house at Nima, adding that she also detected that the husband was also having an affair with his ex-wife who resided in Nigeria.

Rashida became angry because she thought the husband was cheating on her so she moved from the deceased's Nima house in Kumasi to live at Asokore Mampong with her five-year-old son.

On Tuesday evening, the suspect was with her son in their room at Asokore Mampong when the estranged husband visited her around 10:30p.m.

Rashida claimed the husband owed her an amount of money and therefore demanded for it.

The husband replied that he was not in the position to pay the money to her and pleaded that Rashida should allow him to travel to Nigeria on a business trip, promising to settle the debt on his return.

The suspect refused to accept her husband's plea so she held his shirt insisting that until the husband settled the debt, she would not allow him to leave the room.

Suddenly, a skirmish ensued between the couple and Rashida claimed that her husband assaulted her during the brawl until tempers were calmed down and peace was restored between the two.

About 30 minutes after the brawl, Akinjobi pleaded with his wife to have sex with him but Rashida who was still angry, stressed that she would not allow a man who had just beaten her to sleep with her.

Her refusal to go to bed with him infuriated Akinjobi, Rashida said, adding that the deceased then pushed her against a table in the room and then tried to rape her.

She said in an attempt to scare away her husband from raping her, she picked a sharp knife which she used to stab the man on the chest which dazed him and sent him to the floor. She then stabbed him several times in the stomach before fleeing.

DSP Kumi noted that after narrating her story, the police took Rashida to the crime scene and the entire room was covered with blood stains but the knife which the lady used to commit the crime could not be traced.

The police commander said when they asked Rashida about where she kept the knife; she retorted that she could not remember.

The five-year-old boy who saw where his mother threw the knife then stunned all present by leading the police to where the knife was placed.

DSP Kumi said the police would soon arraign the suspect.

Nigerian Legal System and the 14 years imprisonment of Rod Blagojevich

Crime is crime anywhere, though punishment for offenders varies, it is nevertheless a crime.

There are degrees of crimes, ranging from stealing, murder, terrorism, lying on oath etc

In Nigeria political landscape vis a vis the masses, criminals are aptly described when one steals a cup of garri, a tuber of yam etc, such is a heinous crime that attracts stiff punishment.
If you, by contrast, an ex or current political office holder and you are caught stealing billions of public money, and the authority musters the boldness to charge you to court, you plead guilty or not, and you are given a pat at the back, with an executive sentence of one month in prison or with an option of fine. The fine will be so ridiculous, that the big guy simply dip his hands in that back pocket and pay instantly. Off he goes, a free man. See EFFCC vs Lucky Igbinedion, former governor of Edo State.

The other type of crime I really want to discuss here is 'attempt to commit crime' and perjury, ie lying on oath.
Looking at our legal system and the various cases normally charge to court by the police or legal officer, attempt to commit crime is rarely one of them. Not even when one is on oath in court and he is found to have lied before the judge, is anything done to prosecute such person.
The laws are there in our status book, but they lack potency.

Of course, just now, there is a politicised attempt to prosecute the former court of appeal president, Justice Salami for perjury. If it succeeds, will the punishment land him in prison? I doubt.

A Crime may not be too difficult to solve if suspect is truthful. The time for legal battles is reduced.

Unlike Nigeria, other countries where the law is to the letter, there is no apparent distinction between the big guys and area boys when they are involved in crime. For example, recently in Illinois, united State, former governor Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to 14 years in prison,
For attempting to sell the Senate seat vacated by President Obama and then lying to the FBI about it.

If crimes are appropriately punished in respective of who is involved, our politicians will hurriedly find a cure to their kleptomanaic ailments.
Then our money will not be funnelled into the account of an individual but, available for public use. Development will increased, the poor will smile, and crime, terrorism, bombing, kidnapping will reduce.

My mother, with her hands pulling my ears, told me that for a child to perfect the act of stealing, he must first learn to tell lies.

KPMG indicted KICC Minister over Charity Fund

The charity behind Kingsway International International Christian Centre is The Kings Ministries Trust. This was investigated by the Charity Commission of England and Wales between 2002 and 2005. A report of the inquiry was released in October 2005. The report concluded that there had been serious misconduct and mismanagement in the administration of the charity. At an early stage in the investigation, it was considered that the charity's assets were at risk, and control was removed from the existing trustees and placed in the hands of an independent external company (the accountancy and management consultancy practice KPMG), who regularise the charity's affairs.
The report found that:
1. there was serious misconduct and mismanagement in the administration of the Charity (section 21)
2. he was responsible for approving payments and benefits to himself and his wife, Yemisi, totalling more than 384,000 (section 11)
3. he and his family received benefits from the Charity including:
? free accommodation for himself and family
? an 80,000 car (section 12)
? he had made personal purchases using the Charity's Visa card, including the purchase of a timeshare apartment in Florida for 13,000
? over half a million pounds was paid out to Ashimolowos private companies, which were operated from church property and had unclear business relationships with the charity (section 15)
? Ashimolowo acted as both a trustee and a paid employee of the charity (section 4)
He was ordered (section 34) to repay 200,000.
In a subsequent debate in the House of Lords, Lord Swinfen questioned the Charity Commissions running of this investigation. He acknowledged the technical breach, but highlighted its openness, This unincorporated trust has for some years been remunerating its trustees for various services and doing so quite openly. It made the mistake of not realising that it should have altered its constitution explicitly to allow that to be done. He then questioned the cost of the investigation With some advice from the commission and the use of the charity lawyer, the trustees of this charity could have affected these changes for some 12,000one-hundredth of the sum the commission has already spent. He added The commission believes, understandably, that the future success of this charity is assured by the charity having new trustees.
The Guardian UK

Furthermore
It was on a Friday afternoon in the heat of the sun that he walked into the office of Global News magazine, sporting a pair of blue tracksuit trousers and a polo T shirt with a matching cap to disguise his look. Blinking from his right ear like a Yahoo boy that just came into money was a hands-free Bluetooth gadget, he introduced himself as Matthew Ashimolowo, the presiding pastor of the Kingsway International Christian Church (KICC).
The visit to Global News, according to him, was to air his displeasure concerning reports about him in our past editions which he claimed caused him so much pain. The pastor, who came in his yellow chauffeur-driven Hummer Jeep in company of a mobile policeman and another passenger who stayed outside the office, made unpalatable statements not expected of a true man of God.
After more than 30 minutes of ranting, name calling and use of uncouth language, he decided he must have said enough and took his leave.
We want to say categorically that we have nothing against Pastor Ashimolowo. We only reported what actually happened in Britain where he first established his church before he ran to Nigeria when the heat was much on him. The British tabloids liberally reported the case and here we reproduce the version of The Guardian of UK.

Richer than St Pauls:
Church That Attracts 8,000 Congregation To A Disused Cinema
Controversial Pastor Says God Wants You Wealthy
Growing Popularity Leads To Assets Of 22.9m
Robert Booth
The Guardian UK, Saturday 11 April 2009
A pentecostal church based in a disused cinema in north-east London has emerged as one of the countrys richest religious institutions.
The Kingsway International Christian Centre, in Walthamstow, has filed company accounts which reveal it made a 4.9m profit over the last 18 months. It also has assets of 22.9m more than three times the amount held by the foundation which maintains St Pauls Cathedral.
The church is led by a controversial Nigerian pastor, Matthew Ashimolowo, who earns a salary of 100,000 a year and preaches that God wants you rich.
His churchs wealth stems largely from the donations it encourages from its 8,000-strong largely African and Caribbean congregation. They gave 9.5m in tithes and offerings in the 18 months to April 2008, dwarfing the 33,000 that the average Church of England congregation gave over the same period.
Rather than a more traditional plate collection, forms are handed out to worshippers so they can make bank transfers at some services.
KICCs wealth is the clearest sign yet of the gathering popularity of evangelical pentecostalism which is the only growing branch ofChristianity in the UK with an estimated 300,000 weekly worshippers. This Easter Sunday KICC is running five services over 12 hours which are expected to attract 5,000 worshippers, more than Westminster Abbey and St Pauls Cathedral together.
The churchs increasing wealth represents a transformation in its fortunes after the discovery in 2005 by Charity Commission investigators of financial irregularities. Ashimolowo was ordered to repay 200,000 after it emerged he used church assets to buy a 13,000 Florida timeshare and 120,000 on his birthday celebrations, including 80,000 on a car. New trustees were appointed and Ashimolowo was removed from his role as chief executive.
The last 18 months have been a period of incredible journey in the life of KICC, said Ashimolowo in a preface to the accounts. It has been very exciting to see God move the ministry from one level to another as we witness the increased manifestation of His glory.
Ashimolowo is understood to earn his salary from preaching as well as royalties from sermons published in books and on DVDs through his own company. Matthew Ashimolowo Media Ministries made a profit of close to 60,000 in 2003. It has not filed accounts of trading since then although it still operates.
Four KICC directors earn between 60,000 and 80,000 each. By contrast, a typical Church of England vicar earns around 21,500 and even the Archbishop of Canterbury, who has responsibility for an active congregation of close to a million people, only earns 68,740 a year.
This is a very well-financed business, said a tax accountant who examined the accounts for the Guardian. It holds more than 16m in short term investments. I am the honorary auditor of my local church and they have just 20,000 on deposit.
The accountant, who asked not to be named because his firm audits other wealthy pentecostal churches, estimated the KICC had avoided a tax bill of at least 1.3m as a result of its charitable status.
Senior KICC officials denied the surplus meant they were taking too much from their worshippers, many of whom live in the poorest parts of London. People give because of how they have been blessed by what they receive from the church the teaching, the prayer and the church community, said Soji Otudeko, director of finance. People give voluntarily and because of their love of the work of God.
The teaching of the church is very much about self-development, said James McGlashan, a former oil executive who is now KICCs chief operating officer. If that is preaching wealth then we are preaching wealth. Becoming financially independent, owning a house, getting a degree and a better job is good.
The churchs International Gathering of Champions conference at the Excel centre in east London last August attracted 94,000 visitors over eight days. The key message was that God wants you rich and believers are empowered to prosper.
According to the accounts filed with Companies House, KICC finances were boosted by the sale for 10.1m of its Waterden Road home in Hackney to the London Development Agency which needed the site for the 2012 Olympics. It is planning to spend between 50m and 80m on a five-year project to build a complex at a site in Rainham, Essex, with capacity for 8,000 worshippers, classrooms, a TV studio, bookstore and offices.
Its plans have been the subject of a public inquiry which finished last month and a planning inspector is due to report to Hazel Blears, the communities secretary. The plans were originally rejected by the Thames Gateway Development Corporation, and the church feels it is facing undue opposition to its rapid expansion.
I think the way the KICC has been treated has been unfair, said Otudeko. Britain has become a less and less Christian place and planning law seems to no longer recognise places of worship in the system. I dont think any non-religious organisation would have been treated this way.

Religious divide
100,000
The salary for Matthew Ashimolowo as the KICCs main preacher. The Archbishop of Canterbury earns 68,740

A teenager buried in an ornamental bed with a gold-and-garnet cross.

? Archaeologists excavating near Cambridge have stumbled upon a rare and mysterious find: The skeleton of a 7th-century teenager buried in an ornamental bed along with a gold-and-garnet cross, an iron knife and a purse of glass beads.

Experts say the grave is an example of an unusual Anglo-Saxon funerary practice of which very little is known. Just over a dozen of these "bed burials" have been found in Britain, and it's one of only two in which a pectoral cross - meant to be worn over the chest - has been discovered.

One archaeologist said the burial opened a window into the transitional period when the pagan Anglo-Saxons were gradually adopting Christianity.

"We are right at the brink of the coming of Christianity back to England," said Alison Dickens, the manager of Cambridge University's Archaeological Unit. "What we have here is a very early adopter."

The grave, dated between 650 and 680 A.D., was discovered about a year ago in a corner of Trumpington Meadows, a rural area just outside Cambridge that is slated for development.

Howard Williams, a professor of archaeology at the University of Chester who is not connected to the discovery, said bed burials were very rare. But he noted they also happened on mainland Europe and said Anglo-Saxons may have looked across the Channel for inspiration.

"It's part of a broader pan-European identity in life and in death," he said.

Dickens said the teen's grave was interesting because it had a mix of traditional grave goods - the knife, as well as a chain thought to hold a purse full of beads - along with a powerful symbol of Christian devotion.

The grave, she said, indicated "the beginning of the end of one belief system, and the beginning of another."

The teenager's jewelry - a solid gold cross about 3 1/2 centimeters (1 1/2 inches) wide, set with cut garnets - marks her out as a member of the Anglo-Saxon aristocracy. She was about 15, but her skeleton hasn't yet been subjected to radiocarbon dating or isotopic analysis. Those techniques might help experts determine where and under what circumstances she grew up.

Three sets of Anglo-Saxon remains were also found nearby, but it's not clear to what degree any of the people buried there were related.

As for the bed itself, there's little left of it other than its iron fittings.

The rationale behind bed burials remains a matter of speculation.

"The word in Old English for 'bed' and 'grave' is the same because it's 'the place where you lie,'" Dickens said. "It is interesting that you have that association. You're lying there - but just for a much longer time, I suppose.

Satellite images back our claims Iran is developing nuclear weapon- Israeli Officer

An Israeli official claims satellite images that raised suspicions Iran is trying to conceal a key nuclear test back Israel's concerns that Tehran is developing an atomic bomb.

The official said the pictures "reinforce what Israel has been saying all along ... the Iranian nuclear program is not benign." He spoke on condition of anonymity pending a formal government response.

On Wednesday, pictures provided by unspecified member countries to the International Atomic Energy Agency - the UN nuclear agency - appear to show trucks and earth-moving vehicles at Iran's Parchin military site. Diplomats said the images suggested the trucks could be carting away radioactive material created in nuclear testing.

Iran says its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purpose - a claim Israel and the West reject.

Earlier Thursday, Yukiya Amano, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, told CNN that Iran is not telling us everything about its nuclear program.
"We have the indication or information that Iran has engaged in activities relevant to the development of nuclear explosive devices," Yukiya Amano told CNN.

Iran faces growing international pressure over its nuclear program, which it insists is peaceful. Israel has hinted that it might resort to a pre-emptive military strike to stop Tehran's program.

The diplomatic account came only a day after the ISNA news agency reported that Iran indicated that it would give the UN nuclear watchdog access to the Parchin complex.

An International Atomic Energy Agency report last year said that Iran had built a large containment chamber at Parchin, southeast of Tehran, to conduct explosives tests that are "strong indicators" of efforts to develop an atom bomb.

The Burden Of Death: Tribute to Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Ikemba Nnewi.

Death is nobody's friend except to some people who have sold themselves to devil. They would sound the death knell to themselves and force others to accompany them to hell. For example, suicide bombers who in their quintessential of horrors, force death into the homes of others.

There are those who died because they were of age, while others just die.

It is an imminent call everyone must answer.

The question I want to ask is, why is death such a willing servant or master?

In a funeral I attended, the MC told this story:

It happened that God Himself sent death out to reap the souls of men; when it arrived on earth it met an old woman and demanded for her soul. She begged and said, am just about to start to enjoy my children, come next year. So death left and went after a young man, the young man said to death, let me, at least marry and have children before you take me. So death left him and went for a little child, the child said to it, I just entered the world, you want me to go back so soon? It left the child and went for an old man. The old man said, it's dry season, grave will be too tough to dig now, I don't want my people to suffer digging my grave, come raining season. At raining season, death returned, the old man said nobody can dig grave now, the ground is too soft, it might cave in when it's being dug. In frustration death returned to God empty handed. God ordered His angel to hold death down and, God removed it eyes and ears, so that death became blind and deaf.

Thereafter, God sent death again to mankind, on arrival, being deaf and blind, it opened its hands to everybody. That is why it kills both the young and old. It kills everybody, anybody.

Otherwise, the great Ikemba Nnewi, would have found an excuse or we would have found one for him to live on.

Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu , the Ikemba Nnewi, adiue. May your soul rest in peace.

A personal tribute in honour of Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu by Vincent Okoawo.
