Works minister promises transformation of Nigerian roads

The newly appointed minister of works, Architect Mike Onolememen yesterday said his administration as the new minister of works would ensure that Nigerian roads are fixed in accordance with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said that President Jonathan is determined to carry through his transformational agenda to the lasting benefit of all Nigerians and Posterity, adding that road network is vital to transformation programme of the present administration.
For this purpose, he said, the Federal Ministry of Works, by virtue of its statutory responsibility would be the engine room of this drive and must therefore tackle once and for all, the deplorable state of the nationfs road network which has been a source of disillusionment to the generality of the citizens.
Onolememen who gave the indication when he assumed duties as the Minister of Works at the Ministryfs Headquarters, Mabushi in Abuja yesterday, urged the staff of the ministry to join hands with him in order to realise the feat.
According to him, management and staff of the Ministry must become creative and think out of the box, and come up with solutions that would fast track the reversal of the downward trend that has for a long time characterized the nationfs road development agenda.
He particularly enjoined the Directors of the Ministry to become agents of change and match, if not surpass the new pace that would characterize his service as the Minister of Works, since the mandate put before him by the President is very clear and he intends to pursue and achieve this with all the vigour at his disposal.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Ministry, Dr. Tukur Bello-Ingawa assured the minister of the support and readiness of all staff of the ministry to the new zeal which the minister is bringing to the ministry.
He noted his track records in all positions he has occupied in public service and expressed the conviction that these would be consolidated and enhanced in the ministry.
