"NEPA / PHCN Cables" stolen in U. S. A?

A utility company says thieves have climbed utility poles and cut live electrical lines in order to steal hundreds of pounds of copper in a northwestern Indiana neighborhood.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. says at least 2,300 feet of wire have been taken in more than a dozen thefts since Sunday in a neighborhood near downtown Gary. That's an estimated 600 pounds of copper.

Utility spokesman Nick Meyer says that stealing the lines are not only dangerous for the thieves, but they are causing power outages for residents. NIPSCO is urging anyone who sees suspicious activities to call police.

Higher prices for metal in recent years mean copper can sell for more than $4 a pound at scrapyards.
