2 Brothers sentenced to Death for stealing N39,040

Two brothers,
Ibrahim Yau and Abubakar Yau were sentenced death by hanging
for armed robbery.
The Chief Judge, Justice Iorhemen Hwande of Benue High Court,
in Makurdi delivered the judgment on Wednesday .

They were said to have conspired to rob one Simon Tartyough and Isaiah Kena of valuable property at gun point.
Some of the stolen items were cell phones and the sum of N39,040 at Makurdi-Guma Road, sometime in March, 2010.

The convicts, however, denied the allegation.

Their counsel, Mr R.B. Ayula's allocutus could not sway the Chief Judge who said that though the convicts had no evidence of previous conviction, his hands were tied.
"The provisions of the law is that a convict of armed robbery has no option than a death sentence under
the section 1(2) and (b) of the Robbery Act," he
explained.
