Christians in Kano State have been advised to stop bringing bags to churches to prevent mischief makers from smuggling explosives into them.
The decision was adopted to enhance security within and around the churches. This development emerged yesterday, when leaders of the Catholic Faith announced the decision baring women from carrying bags or any item large enough to conceal dangerous weapons, such as pistols, daggers or knives and most importantly explosives, which have been used lately by the deadly Boko Haram sect in attacking places of worship in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
After service at the Saint Louis Catholic Church, Kano, the presiding priest advised women to stop coming to the church with bags, adding that they should only come with their bibles or without them. It was also learnt that similar decision has long been taken by Pentecostal and protestant churches in Kano, as part of the efforts to prevent mischief makers from smuggling explosives into the church, while mixing up with genuine church members.
It will be recalled that a church in Suleja, Niger State, was recently bombed, killing some people. Many churches in Maiduguri have recently been attacked by the dreaded Boko Haram sect. Meanwhile, management of companies operating in Kano have also taken steps to protect their investments by equally barring their workers from engaging in discussing the Boko Haram menace. The firms threatened the workers with sanction in the event of violation of the directive.
