FaroukGate: “The $620,000 has disappeared,” Police claim

Indications emerged on Friday that the 620, 000 dollars subsidy bribe money collected by the former Chairman, House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy, Hon. Farouk Lawan, can no longer be recovered as the Police have concluded that the money has been spent.
This is coming as sources close to Saturday Tribune revealed that final reports of the subsidy bribe investigation is being prepared with a view to meet Lawan’s lawyers who are believed ready for legal battle on the matter.
The source said that conclusion was arrived at, following realization by Hon. Lawan that his continued insistence that he would bring the money was a ploy to delay Police from concluding its investigation.
It was learnt that the Police authorities are now perfecting their legal front with a view to nipping in the bud, any loophole that Lawan’s lawyers may want to exploit during prosecution of the case.
“The only rope that is being held by Lawan, which was in his statement that he handed over the bribe money to Hon. Adams Jagaba, Chairman, House Committee of Financial Crimes, has been investigated and trashed out with all parties making their statements on that issue,” a source said.
“We are tired of seeing him everyday and he continued telling us he will bring the money. We know his gimmick because he believes that without the exhibit the police cannot prosecute him successfully but let us wait and see.”
“It will now be the turn of the courts to decide on the findings of the Police investigation. We have done a job that will be difficult to fault. We have overwhelming evidence even before now, just that we wanted to plug any probable loop hole,” the source told Saturday Tribune.
It will be recalled that oil magnate, Mr. Femi Otedola, had claimed that Hon. Lawan took 620,000 dollars bribe from him under pressure to enable him remove name of his company among those that benefited illegally from fuel subsidy fund and that he had audio and visual evidences to proof his claims.
This is as he claimed that operatives of State Security Service (SSS) were in the know of the incident.

Bakare asks Presiednt Jonathan to Resign

Pastor Tunde Bakare
Convener, Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to resign.
Bakare made the call while delivering a speech at the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, on Sunday.
Speaking on the theme, ‘How to Change Government Peacefully and Make Society Better’, Bakare told the President that resignation was not “a sign of weakness but a sign of patriotic truthfulness”.
The Serving Overseer of Latter Rain and vice-presidential candidate for Congress for Democratic Change in the 2011 presidential election, said Jonathan should not wait to be impeached or disgraced out of office.
Bakare said, “Mr. President should not wait for the conclusions in the court of law and the court of public opinion for the rape and atrocities committed against the Appropriation Act 2011 in respect of the subsidy scandal – a ghost that still haunts his administration and will not rest until the truth is made known and justice is served.

“The admission of extra-budgetary spending of over N2tn without appropriation is another impeachable time bomb that can explode any time. It would be a total disgrace if resignation comes after that explosion.”

The cleric added, “If change, positive change, will ever come to our clime, it will not be engineered by those who are benefitting without conscience from the present cesspool of corrosive corruption.
“It will only come from a new breed without greed and a radical opposition to corruption. True genuine change can only come from those not infected by the present corruption malaise.”

He predicted that the next general elections would be better, adding that they might come earlier than expected.

Bakare said, “He (Jonathan) deserves our sympathy, our prayers and whatever else we can honourably and legally do to make sure he gets back to his home-base safely.

“Perhaps a few suggestions may change the course of our rapid descent into the abyss since free and fair and credibe election is currently alien to our polity. In all honesty, I perceive very strongly that our next general election will be better, though it may come earlier than expected.”

He said for a successful general elections in 2015, corruption, violence and insecurity must be addressed.
Bakare said, “Without doubt, if corruption remains king, violence its deputy and insecurity the treasurer of the ill-fated status quo in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we might as well write the epitaph today: ‘Here lie the remains of a potentially great country whose ruin came because leadership did not give a damn.”

He said the scandalous management of national resources, the unbriddled stealing of public funds and the exposure of level of corruption in every arm of government called for a change of guards.

“Mr. President may be doing his best but the impact is not felt anywhere except in the bank accounts of oil vultures, his corrupt political allies and corporate cowboys.”

Chieftaincy tussle tears Edo community apart

..I am the authentic Aidonogie – Umoru, contender to the throne
Disagreement lingers over the  heir to the throne of Aidonogie of South Ibie Kingdom in Etsako West Local Government of Edo State. Recently, Alhaji Kelvin Aliyu Zibiri Danesi claimed to be the Aidonogie, saying there is no controversy over the title. Prince Umoru Inusa Umoru, a chartered accountant and tax practitioner, in this interview, speaks on the genesis of the dispute surrounding the rightful heir to the Aidonogie of South- Ibie throne.  Excerpts:
Could you chronicle the events leading to the Aidonogie chieftaincy dispute in South-Ibie?
In South Ibie, there is only one ruling House known as Okhokho Ruling House and the occupant of the  chieftaincy stool/Clan Head of South Ibie referred to as the Aidonogie. The Okhokho Ruling House has two branches known as Oghiator and Danesi, from which the Aidonogie is installed.
The procedure regulating the ascension to the stool is codified and it was made under section 8 of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict, 1979 and entitled, “The Customary Law Regulating Succession to the Clan Head (Aidonogie) of South-Ibie”.
Sections 2 and 3 of the law regulating succession to the title of the clan head provide that succession alternates between the two branches and,  to qualify, one must be the eldest surviving son of the last clan head from the branch of the ruling house whose turn is to produce the clan head.
Prince Umoru
After the death of the last Aidonogie in 1997 making the post vacant, in accordance with provisions of section three of the law, it became the turn of the Danesi branch to produce the candidate to fill the throne. The Danesi branch presented Kelvin Aliyu Danesi, who, on the account of the clear provisions of section 3, was not qualified
When my father, Alhaji I M J Umoru, died in 1997, we were still organising the burial rites when we received a writ of summon from Kelvin Aliyu Danesi restraining us from installing another king from our family. After we received the summon, we proceeded to court and when judgement was to be delivered, the then military administrator, the late Navy Captain Onyearugbulem, did not understand the issues involved but  nonetheless came to my village and gave Kelvin the staff of office.
We wondered why this should be, and went to court. On June 20, ,1999, Justice Coram Sadoh delivered  judgement,  saying Kelvin had no right to become the Aidonogie because of the law on ground. After the judgement, he went on appeal at the Appeal Court. Meanwhile, the state government had taken their decision on the matter that whatever staff of office he had received before was null and void according to the law.
That he had no right to the throne. Then my family was asked to present someone who will occupy the throne and my late elder brother, Mr. Momodu Yinusa Umoru, was presented by the family but because Kelvin said he had gone to the Appeal Court, we waited for the judgement. When the judgement from the Appeal Court came in our favour, he went to the Supreme Court. Then there was a twist. The chieftaincy law dramatically changed.  Somebody allegedly tampered with it.
We went to court and Justice Komolafe Wilson delivered another ruling restraining Kelvin, as well as and the  state government from recognising him as the person entitled to the throne, according to the chieftaincy law of 1979. The judge told them the law could not be tampered with.
After this, Kelvin wrote to the Supreme Court that he wanted to withdraw his appeal. We went back to court on April 13, 2009 following which Justice Ighodalo of the High Court, Edo State told Kelvin that he had been told by three different courts that he should not parade himself as the leader of South- Ibie. The recent media claim that he is Aidonogie and that there is no controversy is a very good evidence to tender at the court of law that he has committed contempt of court.
It is worthy of note that, in 1979, the then Bendel State government reviewed all the Chieftaincy Declaration Acts in the state including that of South Ibie Kingdom and the Danesi dynasty seized the opportunity to re-establish itself as a contending party to the throne. There was a caveat though, that is,  vide Clause 3 of the Act which states, “To qualify as the Aidonogie of South Ibie Kingdom, one must be the eldest surviving son of the last clan head from the branch of the ruling house whose turn it is to produce the clan head”.
Between 1979 and 1997, during the reign of the first Aidonogie, HRH Alhaji I M J Umoru ‘JP’, no one challenged this law. When the Aidonogie joined his ancestors, the only person qualified in the Danesi dynasty to take over was Chief Pa Momoh Danesi who was disfranchised by the Danesi dynasty itself as too old in an affidavit dated February 2, 1998 and signed by him and members of his family. The extant law did not leave a vacuum.
For example, Section 14 (1c) of the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Law of Edo State clearly states that in a situation like this, “…the branch next entitled according to the Declaration shall submit a qualified candidate for the Aidonogieship”.
From the foregoing, therefore, it is very clear that the claim in the publication by Aliyu Kelvin Zibiri Danesi is not right.  It is nothing but an attempt to stand history on the head.

VIDEO: Prophet T.B. Joshua Prophesied Colorado Cinema Shooting

TB Joshua.
In a senseless act of carnage, James Holmes, a PhD student at the University of Colorado, shot 70 people, leaving 12 dead and scores more critically wounded in what has been classified as the largest mass shooting in United States history.
With shock still reverberating around the nation and film industry, a YouTube video has been released claiming that a Nigerian Pastor, who has a remarkable penchant for accurate revelations, had actually predicted the incident one month earlier.
“In the nation of America, they should pray,” the YouTube clip showed Pastor T.B. Joshua saying on Sunday 10th June 2012 during a church service. “I am seeing a man carry a gun in a gathering of people and begin to shoot. A lot of people will be killed before the man will be arrested… This is homeland security.”  The prophecy was broadcast live on the ministry’s media outlet, Emmanuel TV.
During the first gun scene in the movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, Holmes, masked and dressed in black, threw a canister emitting smoke suspected to be tear gas, which partially obscured the audience’s sight. He then brandished a rifle and opened fire on the crowd, picking his victims at random and only stopping to reload his weapon.
It was a scene “straight out of a horror film,” said Chris Ramos, who was inside the theatre. “He was just literally shooting everyone, like hunting season,” Ramos said. “There were bullet [casings] just falling on my head. They were burning my forehead,” Jennifer Seeger, one of the witnesses told reporters afterward. “Every few seconds it was just: Boom, boom, boom,” she said.
The police arrived less than 90 seconds after the first emergency calls were made and almost immediately apprehended the suspect upon their arrival at the scene. He is said to have told the police that he was ‘The Joker’, a sinister and psychotic character in Nolan’s previous adaptation of the Batman trilogy.
After the incident, US President Obama told a sombre crowd in Florida: “Such violence, such evil, is senseless. But, while we will never know fully what causes somebody to take the live of another, we do know what makes life worth living.”
Flags at the White House were lowered to hall-staff in honour of the victims. “This will be a day for prayer and reflection,” Obama said, calling for the country to unite as one and support the victims.
T.B. Joshua is a very popular religious figure in Africa, his predictions especially revered due to their consistent success rate. He is also well known for his close connections to Ghana’s President John Atta Mills, Malawi’s new female head Joyce Banda and Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangarai.
Joshua is said to have also prophesied concerning the tragic shooting in the military base of Fort Hood in November 2009. His most recent prophecies have included the demise of Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika, the tragic plane crashes in Nigeria and Indonesia and the historic footballing success of Zambia in the African Cup Of Nations.

"You Are not Under 17!" Eighteen Eaglets Fail MRI scan

Eighteen members of the Nigerian U-17 team have failed the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test conducted to verify their ages.
The affected players were screened out during the Grade 1 test ordered by FIFA for all the countries that will participate in CAF/FIFA age grade football competitions.
The Media Officer of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Demola Olajire, confirmed the development on Friday, adding that the over-age players had been ordered out of the camp.
“The NFF conducted MRI tests for the players presented to us by the coaches as U-17. The players failed our MRI test and they are out of the Golden Eaglets team,” he said.
“So, we are looking for new players now, but Nigerians should note that we are not the parents of these players.”
It will be recalled that Nigeria has, in the past, faced many accusations of fielding over-age players in age-grade competitions.
Reacting to the latest scandal, former coach of the Flying Eagles, Tunde Disu, advised Coach Manu Garba and his assistants to go back to schools to select new players ahead of their Africa U-17 qualifying series, which kicks off in September.
“I don’t see this incident as a disgrace; rather it’s a wake-up call. Nigeria still has time to amend the situation,” he said.
“Let the coaches go to the academies and schools to scout for players who are within the age limit. I think the MRI test introduced by FIFA will force Nigeria and other African countries to go back to the grassroots to pick true U-17 players.”

"She is Troublesome" He Said, ‘My husband denied me sex for five years’ - Wife

Mrs. Modupe Falola, in a divorce case  filed by her husband told Agege Grade A Customary  that her husband, Mr. Falilu Falola, denied her sex for five years.
She claimed that trouble started  when her husband returned from church one day and  on the advice of his prophet,  told her that she was suffering from a generational curse which she had to pray fervently about for  deliverance.
She added that her husband took advantage of what he heard from his prophet to treat her badly. “ I was heavily pregnant then and immediately I delivered the baby, my husband stopped having sex with me and as well stopped giving me money for the upkeep of the only child of the marriage”, the defendant in the case of divorce instituted by her husband stated. That ever since he had treated her bad and all efforts by her parents to reconcile them did not yield good result
The petitioner on his part claimed that he was deceived into the marriage by his friend whom Modupe worked for as secretary. That she was troublesome and she quarrels with neighbors and even his house boy had to leave in annoyance
Falilu vowed that even if the court paved the way for settlement, he had made up his mind not to have anything to do with her “because we are not compatible”. “ I stopped having sex with her five years ago, because of her bad behaviour; besides, Modupe is not friendly with the children l had from my previous marriage”.
He prays the court to dissolve the marriage and grant him custody of the only child of the union.
The case has been adjoined  to August 7, 2012 for further hearing
