Enesi Jimoh who served at one time the Chairman of Adavi
Local Government Area,
Kogi State, has been sentenced to six month
imprisonment without option of fine for converting the sum N7 million meant for the provision of boreholes to Adavi people to his personal use.
His action bothers on fraud and was prosecuted for it by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, at the Federal High Court sitting in
Lokoja,the state capital.
The charge upon which
Jimoh was convicted read:
"That you Enesi Jimoh
Suleman, while serving as executive chairman of Adavi Local Govt Area
converted the sum of 7 million naira property of the council, concealing its illicit origin and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 14 of the Money Laundering Prohibition
Act, 2004, and also punishable under Section 14 of same Act.
Justice I. E. Ekwo who presided over the case agreed with the EFCC submissions that it has proved the case against the defendant beyond reasonable doubt and therefore convicted the former local govt boss for the crime.
