The police prosecutor, Usman Simeon said that the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on February 13 set up a Special Task force led by Maji Michael to screen the recruits.
He said, “The task force discovered that the affected recruits used forged certificates and also impersonated owners of certain results.”
The prosecutor claimed that the task force also discovered that the accused forged primary school leaving certificates, SSCE/NECO and NCE, while others used other persons’ credentials to join the force.
All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges and they were granted bail in liberal terms.
At the time of filing this report it could not be ascertained whether the Police would also prosecute actual owners of some of the results/certificates used by of the accused
If these persons had found their way into the police force undetected, one could only imagine the the extent of incompetence they would exhibit on duty.
