Chief Leonard Uchendu, is the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, was, on Sunday, kidnapped at his Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area home town by unknown kidnappers.
Uchendu a successful business tycoon, was the President- General of Umuawulu Town Union before he picked the ticket for the governorship election coming up November 16.
The Anambra State chairman of the party, Lady Virgy Chukwuogor states that the circumstances surrounding Uchendu's abduction was worrisome.
That members of NNPP were surprised when the security personnel attached to the governorship candidate were recently withdrawn, thereby putting him at great security risk.
She added that despite complaints to the state Police Command, nothing was done as the candidate did not have any security operative attached to him before the abduction.
She explained that the abduction had been reported to the state Police Commissioner, who had assured of tracking down the kidnappers.
