A Traditional Ruler, Chief Mufutau Obabiyi And 4 Others Arraingned For Kidnap In Ogun State


A traditional ruler, Chief Mufutau Obabiyi and four others have been remanded in prison by a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ado-Odo in the Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, for alleged attempted murder and abduction of a Police Inspector, Mulero Joseph and one Morufu Sumonu.

Chief Mufutau Obabiyi was arraigned along four other persons before Ado-Odo Magistrate’s Court by the Police on a three-count charge of conspiracy, felony and kidnap.
According to  the charge sheet, by Vanguard, Chief  Mufutau Obabiyi, Chief Erubami Saheed, Saka  Yakubu ; Saka Iyanbo,  Afisu Oke, also known as  Surutu, and others still  at large September 16, 2012 at Kofunlerin Village in Ado Odo/Ota LGA of Ogun State  conspired to commit felony – kidnapping – thereby committing an offence punishable under  Section 516 of the criminal code, cap 77 law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as applicable in Ogun State.
The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, Akin Owanade from Force CID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos told the court that the suspects were alleged to have abducted Morufu Sumonu on the fateful day, which according to him, is an offence punishable under Section 364 of the criminal code, Cap 77.
He said: “They  also  attempted to murder a Police Inspector, Mulero Joseph, by shooting him with gun in the right leg thereby committing  an offence punishable under Section 320 of criminal code cap 77.”
The accused were alleged to have robbed their victims of a telephone handset, ID card belonging to one Akin Maku and a sum of N200,000
However,  counsel  to the accused persons pleaded with the court to grant his clients  bail, but the prosecutor objected to the plea, urging the court to keep the accused in prison custody pending the reception of the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution.
The Magistrate, Olukayode Ilo, however,  said  that the defence counsel could not convince the  court and therefore ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody  while the matter was adjourned till November 13, 2013.
