Sadiq Abubakar , a 30-year-old driver, has been charged to a Magajin Gari Sharia Court, Kaduna, for alleged criminal breach of trust.
Sadiq Abubakar rented a Golf car belong to Malam Yahaya Ibrahim of Kabala Doki in Kaduna for commercial purposes on an agreement that Sadiq Abubakar be remitting to the owner of the vehicle N17,000 every week
Sadiq who has been using the vehicle since June this year has only remitted to the owner the sum of N23, 000,
Sadiq was arrested upon compliant by Malam Yahaya Ibrahim and charged to court.
Cpl. Bitrus Koji, the Police prosecutor, told the court that Sadiq diverted about N460,000 for the period he did not remit the money to the owner.
According to Punch Newspaper, the complainant had on Dec. 3 reported Abubakar to Kabala Doki police station, accusing him of failing to honour an agreement between them since June.
The prosecutor said the accused had also collected N25, 000 to repair the car, which he claimed was spoilt.
Koji said the complainant decided to seek for justice when on Dec.1, Abubakar brought N3,000 as the total proceeds realised in the six months he was driving the car , claiming that the vehicle was always developing faults.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened sections 312 and 322 of the penal code law.
When his plea was taken, Abubakar pleaded guilty to the charge, and the Presiding Officer, Khadi Ibrahim Muhammad fixed Dec. 18 for judgement.
