Akeem Adeoye Who allegedly Pushed A man Into a Moving Truck Arraigned, Granted Bail

A tricyclist, who allegedly caused the death of a retired custom officer, Ibukun Oniremi, was on Thursday charged before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, 25-year-old Akeem Adeoye is facing a charge of manslaughter.
The prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu said the accused committed the offence on Jan. 20 at 10.00 a.m. on Marwa Road, Ijegun, a Lagos suburb.

According to him, the accused hit the deceased’s car with his tricycle in the traffic.
“The deceased came out of his car with his belt to flog the accused.
“The accused in a bid to avoid the lashes pushed the deceased to the fast lane and was crushed by an oncoming truck marked BG 89 KNN.’’
Nwosu noted that the offence contravened Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The tricyclist pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In his remarks, the Magistrate, Mr Tunbosun Abolarinwa, said the accused should be charged with manslaughter and not murder earlier preferred against him since he did not intentionally kill the man.
“The accused did not deliberately kill the man, but was only defending himself.’’
He granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Abolarinwa adjourned the case to March 3 for further hearing
