Corporal Salami Adesina a policeman serving in Ilorin, Kwara State, was alleged to have conspired with three other persons to commit armed robbery. The Suspects who were charged to court, were ordered to be remanded in prison custody by the presiding magistrate
Mr. Adesina, was attached to Stanbic Bank on Unity Road in Ilorin. For that purpose he was issued with a service browning pistol with 10 rounds of live ammunition for official use.
However, Salami Adesina converted the use of the pistol for criminal activities.
The Nigeria Police force alleged that Salami conspired with three commercial motorcyclists-Raman Musa, Emmanuel Ogbonaya and Abolarin Sunday- to rob their victims of N20,000.00 (Twenty thousand Naira) cash and one Nokia cell phone at gun point.
He was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery, which the prosecution said contravened Section 97 of the Penal Code and Section 1(2) of the Armed Robbery and Firearms Act.
According to the charge sheet, the policeman, a corporal serving with Police ‘A’ Division, Ilorin, introduced himself to three people as a police officer. He arrested them without any reason.
The charge sheet stated that Mr. Adesina handcuffed two of his victims with the assistance of the three suspects and took the three victims on motorcycles to a secluded spot around Flower Garden area of the metropolis. The victims were disposed of the money and handset at gun point.
The police prosecutor, Chris Koregee, told the court that investigation into the case was on-ongoing and urged the court to remand the accused in prison. In her ruling, the magistrate, Bola Mohammed, ordered the remand of all the accused in a Federal Prison Yard, Ilorin and adjourned the case to October 24 for hearing
