Two feared dead as hoodlums sack Sango-Ota
Trouble started in the area, when a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who was simply identified as Alfa came from Lagos to hijack one of the garages in the area. The invasion by the hoodlums, it was further gathered, followed the meeting of members of the NURTW in the area, to resist the attempt by Alfa to hijack the garage. Two persons were feared dead, while several others were injured, following the attack, as assorted arms and ammunition were freely used; this also disrupted vehicular movements along Sango- Ota Road.
One of the motorists affected, Mr. Samuel Owoyele, while speaking in an interview with reporters disclosed that he had to spend over three hours due to disruption of vehicular movements by the hoodlums. He described the prompt response of police to the distress call as having gone a long way in reducing the number of casualties in the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, told reporters, that one person lost his life, while the other was receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. Adejobi disclosed that the police promptly responded following the distress call sent by the people of the area. "One Jelili Abubakar, 27, was shot in the arm by the hoodlums, while one unidentified member of the gang was also found injured at the time our men got to the scene.
The two were rushed to the hospital, the victim is responding well to treatment, while a member of the gang gave up the ghost," he stated. The PPRO disclosed that the remains of the slain hoodlum had been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary, adding that the police had ensured the restoration of peace in the area. He, however, urged the people to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment.
